How to Count Number of Schools in Student Level Dataset?

Hello SPSSlisters,

 

How can I produce a count of the number of schools in a dataset where
each case is a student? School is a string variable containing the
school name. I have been aggregating by the school name variable and
then producing a count of the number of cases, but this is time
consuming. I know there must be a quicker way to do this, but it's not
coming to me right now.
