How to combine different continuous variables into one categorical

DLR
I would like to combine (or merge) multiple continuous level measure variables into one categorical variable?

I currently have:
VarX=number of people in respondent's household
VarY=number of people in respondent's work/school
Varz=number of respondent's neighbor

I would like to create a new variable such that
social network=
value 1=VarX
value 2=VarY
Value 3=VarZ

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Thank you

I think you need to define the rules for creation of this 'variable'!
Please be very specific as at present this question makes minimal sense.

Ryan
Concatenate the dataset vertically (3 records) and create an indicator variable called "soc_net_indic" with the following value labels for each record: 1=household, 2=work/school, and 3 = neighbor. Then create a second variable which provides the actual numbers corresponding / linking to each value.

Thank Ryan.  The thing that confuses me is that the original variables are ratio level measures (e.g. the number of...), not string.  So if I follow your logic, then I treat them as string to then recreate them as numerical?  I am not be following you.

Also please provide a small example showing the current state of the data, and what you want it to look like afterwards.  (This is often far more helpful than a verbal description.)
