A minor annoyance in SPSS 16, but an annoyance nonetheless. Within the
Syntax Editor, the INSERT key on my keyboard does not seem to work in SPSS 16. It does not toggle back and forth between INSERT and OVERWRITE. It may have something to do with my configuration, but I did not experience this problem with previous versions of SPSS. Are others seeing the same issue? I know one suggestion may be to switch to another text editor. But I wanted to check to see if there are any solutions that can be applied to SPSS's Editor. I've noticed a problem with the insert key on both 14 and 15. I noticed that
the functioning of the insert key, as indicated by the 'ovr' vs 'ins' in the bottom whatever it is called in the spss window, reversed. It was not consistent and it seemed to interact with other programs. Which ones I could never say for sure but also never spent much time on it. Even though, I think spss either ditched the old v15 editor and either replaced or rewrote the editor for v16, you might find that toggling the ins key 'eventually' makes overtype work. I might add that I have consistently used Dell series desktop computers. I think the problem may also have occurred on different Dell series laptop computers as well. It's unpleasent to hear about the problem but I'd also be interested to know if others note the same problem as I'll be getting 16 in about six months and, given some of the messages about problems, I don't know that it is anything to look forward to. Control delete and control backspace dont work either at my computer. (They
used to delete the (part of the) word before the cursor and the (part of) the word after the cursor.
