Dear list members,
Has anyone successfully imported SAS Files in SPSS including value labels? When getting SAS DATA FILES (.sas7bdat) in SPSS without the formats subcommand - no value labels appear. This is well known and also described in the archive of our list. Unfortunately I could neither find in the list's archive nor in the SPSS Help Menu a way how to import the SAS formats files, so that value labels are attributed. It never worked. The SPSS Help Menu states: "For SAS transport files, the FORMATS subcommand is ignored". Is the SAS file I am using (.sas7bdat) a SAS transport file? Many thanks for your help. Did you actually use the FORMATS subcommand naming the file containing the
labels. File Open box describes a file with extension of .sas7bdat as a SAS Long File Name file. A Transport file is associated with a different extension. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Hans-Christian Stahl Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2007 4:14 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Import SAS Files to SPSS 15.0 with value labels Dear list members, Has anyone successfully imported SAS Files in SPSS including value labels? Dear Hans-Christian,
try following statement in sas to create the value labels (where 'path' is the directory that contains your input data file): libname mylib 'path'; proc format library = mylib cntlout = mylib.sas_fmts; run; then: GET SAS /DATA='path\inputdatafile.sas7bdat' /FORMATS='sas_fmts.sas7bdat'.
