Importing/exporting Variable sets

Kam T
Dear SPSSers,
I have a simple issue; I'd like to use variable sets across multiple datasets. Is there a way to export and import variable set definitions?

Thank you

Re: Importing/exporting Variable sets

Peck, Jon

You can do this with APPLY DICTIONARY (Data>Copy Data Properties in the menus).  They are a file property, and you will see a checkbox for this in the file properties panel.  That corresponds to the FILEINFO subcommand.

HTH,

Jon Peck

Hi K.,

try Data -> Copy data properties...

Or you can use syntax containing definitions for the variables.

Best regards,

Jan

Re: Importing/exporting Variable sets

Mike Pritchard

On a similar note, is there a way to dump or print out a complete variable list with all the definitions?

Thanks

Mike

Quite how SPSS decided all the variables from v4  to v24 and height in metres are nominal is beyond me.  They were all input as integers except height in metres (input as F5.2) as you can see.  Ditto for height in feet and separately inches (later combined and  converted to metres using an IF command).  However it managed to get age right.  It also got serial as scale.  Now what inferential statistics could I do with that, I wonder?

Measurement Level (was: Importing/exporting Variable sets)

ViAnn Beadle

The algorithm that SPSS uses to determine measurement level when unspecified by the user is defined in help.

Measurement level is used within dialog boxes to filter or restrict selection for roles and set different defaults for selected variables.
