Installing and Verifying Data Access Pack (ODBC driver components)

William Peck
I installed Data Access Pack 7.1.2, but can't tell if it was successful. The installation (Windows 10) seemed to go ok, but then it hung up and basically died. Is there any way I can do some quick test to see if it installed correctly?

I had also gotten this error: "1607:Unable to install InstallShield Scripting runtime"

But then I noticed all the folders seem to be there, two folders:
- SDAP712
- SPSSOEM - this is all odbc related.

It's going to be a while before I can turn my attention to ODBC connections, and it looks a bit involved. The User Manual is 377 pages.

So is there any quick test or something that I can do to verify the installation, before this effort goes cold for me?

Thank you.

Throw away the 377 page manual.  Within Statistics, you only use ODBC indirectly through the Database Wizard (import or export) and a few very obscure other places.

To check the installation, use File > Import  Data > Database > New Query.  Then click on Add ODBC Data Source and see whether your intended source is listed or can be added via the Add button.

Note that for any source, the bitness has to agree with the bitness of Statistics, so you can't use a 32-bit driver with 64-bit Statistics or vice versa.
