Can anyone advise on how to change the journal file location for all users of a network installation of SPSS 21 running on Windows Server 2008 R2? Have so far failed to locate an appropriate registry key.
Many thanks. |
If you navigate to below path, you'll find relevant files ("sess_journal_file" in your case)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics\22.0\ui\options\file_locations I got to this path by searching "statistics.jnl" in regedit which I obtained from SPSS "Edit-->Options-->File Locations-->Journal File" |

Could that not possibly end up with different users overwriting/intermingling one another's session journals?
Maybe proceed with caution before implementing this master plan. --

The journal is kept on the client system,
so I think this setting will be in the Client registry. On my system,
this is the key for V21.
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2065661871-858326956-638741381-1051\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics\21.0\ui\options\file_locations. You would need to run a Registry script on each Client system. Thank you very much Jon. I can't actually locate this registry key A registry search for JavaSoft does produce a couple of results but none with the relevant sub-entries. The server on which SPSS is installed also run Citrix XenApp 6.5 and users run SPSS via a remote Citrix connection to the server. So, in effect, the server is a client. Perhaps I just need to carry on searching.

Thanks very much Jignesh. Strangely, this registry location doesn't exist on the system on which SPSS is installed and a search for statistic.jnl produces nothing.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but the
journal file only exists on the client version. There is no journal file
on the server version; so you probably won't find a registry entry for
the journal file on the server machine.

Hi Rick. Thank you. The journal file does appear to exist. It's path for each user in the SPSS Options is given as User\DocumentsSPSSInc\IBMStatistics\statistics.jnl and, sure enough there are statistics.jnl files in the relevant locations.
