Loess line: % of points to fit

Tanja Gabriele Baudson
Hi all,

I am fitting a lo(w)ess line to my data and am wondering about the
optimal percentage of points to fit. Cohen et al. (2003) propose
"simple visual judgments by the analyst", usually ranging from .25 to .
90. However, as I have never used this method before, I would like to
know whether there is a "rule of thumb".

Regards, and thanks in advance! :)
