Mann-Whitney Test uses a larger sample then defined

stefan.duke@gmail.com
Dear SPSS-Lister,

I am using SPSS 15 and want to perform a Mann-Whitney Test (my samples
are not sufficiently normally distributed).
I am using the following comand. The variable sample_grp is only
defined for 0 and 1 and has otherwise missings.

NPAR TESTS
  /M-W= func_1 emot_1 symp_1   BY sample_grp(0 1)
  /STATISTICS= DESCRIPTIVES
  /MISSING LISTWISE.

The odd thing is, that the test uses a larger sample then defined by
sample_grp. Even if I use a Filter (or delete cases), the sample size
is larger (291 instead of 268 for the first group and 58 instead of 53
for the second group).
Has anybody an idea what I overlooked?

Best,
Stefan
