Marketbasket

Peter Spangler
Data: I am running a hierarchical cluster analysis in SPSS v21 for a 2-4 cluster solution. I have 31 continuous variables--each a shopping category--with counts of transactions per case.

Goal:  is to find categories where transactions occur together. Does anyone have a recommendation of how to structure an analysis such as this? I am running into all cases being put into 1 cluster.

If you are trying to run a sequence analysis, you might consider association rules.  You can do that natively in Modeler or via the SPSSINC APRIORI extension command in Statistics.

Thank you, Jon! I successfully downloaded SPSSINC APRIORI and realized I needed SPSS_Statistics_REssentials and the RPlugin. I have downloaded both to C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\21 but I am getting an error when installing the REssentials: "R 2.14 was not found in this location"

Any suggestions?

Please read the installation instructions for the Essentials.  They are a separate download.  You have to install R2.14 yourself from the R CRAN site before installing the Essentials.  IBM can't do that because of the R licensing.  Sorry.
