Hi: I have two datasets. One has contextual data with census data for
308 constituencies over three elections. The other dataset has individual voter data over the same three elections with respondents distributed unevenly over all those 308 constituencies. I would like one data set where the census data for each voter's constituency is matched with the correct voter. Right now the dataset looks like this Dataset1 consituencyID v1 v2 v3 v4 respondent1 respondent2 respondent3 respondent4 Dataset2 constituencyID vx vy vz constituency1 constituency2 constituency3 I would like this to look as follows constituencyID v1 v2 v3 v4 vx vy vz respondent1 respondent2 respondent3 I have tried the merge files function but it seems to fail because in the public opinion survey there are more than one respondents in most constituencies. That is to say, the key does not uniquely identify each case. Can someone provide some advice? Yours, Simon Kiss ********************************* Simon J. It sounds like you want to do a so-called table lookup match.
In the Add Variables dialog box, note the two radio buttons "Non-active dataset is keyed table" and "Active dataset is keyed table." The keyed table is the source of 1 record in a potential 1-to-many match based on a key variable match.
