FW: Methodological Question: Nigerian Youth Baseline Report

John F Hall

[Not SPSS but relevant sampling question]

This came with a pdf attached which I’ve checked: it’s genuine.  Colleagues on either list are better qualified than me to advise.  I changed the link to a URL and hope it works.

Subject: Methodological Question: Nigerian Youth Baseline Report

Dear all,

The Nigerian National Bureau of Statistics recently published a Youth Baseline report (report is attached in case the link doesn't work) http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/pages/download/191

Following its release in December 2013, I have been trying to understand the methodology of the study, particularly the sample size and how exactly it was derived.

The presentation of the report is confusing to me especially because the results are presented in several ‘estimated’ millions and the only stated secondary data source is for 'crime,' which is stated appropriately in thousands.

I would be so grateful if anyone with experience conducting large scale national/ household studies and/or understands census data from a developing country context could provide some guidance.

Sincere regards, Dabesaki
