Dear Friends,
Someone asked me to compare four sample proportions with four proportions from a normative sample using a multinomial test. Is this test available in the PASW18 system?
Any suggestions or references will be greatly appreciated.
I'm not entirely clear on what you are doing. Here are some questions:
1. Do the 4 proportions sum to 1? I.e., are you looking at the proportions of some total N that fall into each of the 4 categories? Or are they proportions having some other characteristic you've not mentioned yet (e.g., proportion that are male, or proportion who smoke, etc)? Please provide more detail.
2. Are the proportions from the "normative sample" are considered population parameters? I'm trying to understand whether you need a test that compares two independent samples versus one that compares sample values to population parameters.
