Multiple core CPU beneficial or hinderance in using SPSS?

devoidx
Hey guys, I know this is not a SPSS coding questions but our institution is looking into buying a new research computer. The SPSS databases that we use contain billions of records so we need a monster of a computer to speed things up (i know servers and linking computers is a better option but that's not an option right now). I recommended 64gb RAM but as for CPU..not too sure..on the instructions from IBM it says, only a few SPSS commands use multiple cores while the majority use a single core which makes multiple core CPUs a hinderance because the higher the number of cores the lower the speed of each one...any suggestions for CPUs?

Thanks

bump....Some input would be appreciated here...Trying to figure out optimal type of CPU for SPSS considering only a handful of SPSS commands can take advantage of multithreading
