Hi All,
I've just installed the recent version 17.0.2 patch and aside from the interesting name change I've noticed that if I have a data set open and then I try to open a syntax file a new SPSS window opens. I can only open syntax files by the file —> Open syntax to prevent a new SPSS opening. Has anyone else come across this and is there a setting or something that I can change to prevent this? I get the same thing. Also opens a new SPSS iteration when you double click a file name in Windows Explorere (My Docs).
It did not open a new iteration if I double clicked a second time--i.e. I double-click one file and a new iteration starts, I double click a second file and it opens in the same iteration that just
opened.
Looks like this patch is still not quite there.

I found this to be true in SPSS 17 (prior
to the 17.0.2 patch). I called SPSS Support about the problem (opening a
syntax file using Windows Explorer results in a second session of SPSS). The response
(below) was not particularly helpful: Entered on: 2/19/2009 3:57:47 PM by: Subject: call to customer In other words, as far as SPSS is
concerned, don’t use Windows Explorer to open syntax if you’re
concerned with having multiple sessions open. Dan From: SPSSX(r)

Sorry, I wasn’t precise enough in my
hurried response. I should have stated the problem occurs when I double-click on
the file in Windows Explorer. That is the manner in which I always opened files
in previous versions of SPSS (V15 and earlier). That approach always worked in
the past – but not in V17. Now, as ViAnn suggested, it looks like: 1) Right Click, 2) Open With, 3) PASW
Statistics on the file in Windows Explorer opens a second
syntax file within an already open SPSS session (without starting a second
session). Dan From: ViAnn

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me on testing significance of squared semi-partial correlations in multiple regression. I heard that a p-value of the beta is the same with the p-value of the squared semi-partial correlation for the same predictor. Is it true? Or is there a formula I should use to test whether the squared semi-partial correlation is significant? Any advice will be appreciated!
