News from SPSS Developer Central

Peck, Jon

We have two new contributed dialog boxes for R packages.

João P. Maroco, Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, LIsbon

has contributed a dialog for heterogeneous correlations - Pearson, polyserial, and polychoric (Poly Correlations in the Downloads list).  We already have another dialog and extension command for this R package, but the new dialog has some cool graphics.

He has also contributed a dialog for Support Vector Machines (SVM).

There are two new SPSS-developed extension commands.

SPSSINC GETURI DATA retrieves and opens SPSS, SAS, Stata, or Excel data files from a web address.

SPSSINC_MFP_GLM is an R-based extension command with dialog box for multiple polynomial regression, a technique that was recently discussed on the X list.

All of the items above require at least version 17 and the appropriate plugin(s) and, except for GETURI DATA, the appropriate R package.

There is a new function in the spssaux2.py module.  The ntiler function creates a recode that codes cases into n groups such that the sum of the values in each group is approximately equal for all groups.  The smallest case values are in the first group through the largest in the last.  This has come up a few times recently on the X list and elsewhere.

Minor maintenance has been done on

the R regression diagnostics dialog

the SPSSINC MODIFY OUTPUT extension command

the SPSSINC TURF extension command

In addition, if you are migrating to PASW Statistics 17.0.2, the corresponding Python, R, and .NET plugin updates can be found on the plugins page.  Be sure to uninstall the previous 17.0.x plugins before installing the new ones.

As usual, these items can be downloaded from SPSS Developer Central, www.spss.com/devcentral.  And they are free.

For those of you attending the European SPSS Directions conference in Prague May 11-14, I'll be giving a talk on programmability on Tuesday.

Regards,
