There is a new extension command available
and updates to two existing ones.
The STATS BENCHMRK extension command
provides a command to measure time, memory, and i/o resource usage for
SPSS Statistics jobs. It produces a dataset that can be analyzed
with Statistics to help you optimize syntax jobs and find resource usage
bottlenecks. It is available for Windows only due to the tools necessary
for collecting these measures.
The SPSSINC TURF extension command has
been enhanced to allow the use of variable importance weights. These
are not used in the reach calculations, but the output now includes mean
and total importance. In working this out, I found a number of conceptual
issues in how this should be done, so I would be interested to hear from
users about how this implementation does or does not meet their needs.
Maximizing importance instead of reach turns out to be computationally
very expensive in a procedure that is already computationally demanding,
which is why importance is not used in the maximization process.
The STATS OUTPUT ATTRS extension command
has a change to make header and footer text that contains characters outside
plain 7-bit ascii work.
As usual, all these items are available
free from the SPSS Community website at www.ibm.com/developerworks/spssdevcentral.
