Deadline for Abstracts: Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 11:59 PM Eastern
Time Deadline for Posters and Video Presentations: Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time https://www.aaas.org/events/coalition-posters-2020 Human rights are increasingly relevant to science and technology. The important roles of scientific methods, tools and knowledge for advancing human rights are also more visible today than ever. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Human Rights Coalition, Human Rights Educators USA (HRE USA) and the University and College Consortium for Human Rights Education (UCCHRE) invite students to submit an e-poster and presentation video for the upcoming October 22-23, 2020 virtual Science, Technology, and Human Rights Conference. The Student E-Poster Session during this conference is an opportunity for students to share their research at the intersection of science, technology and human rights. The session is meant to showcase the individual efforts of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral-level students who are interested in human rights and who are actively working toward a degree. Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be full-time students at the time of submission. They must be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree program and must have done recent work at the intersection of science, technology, and human rights to be eligible to submit an e-poster. An adviser must certify that the research presented on the poster involves only the work of a student enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree program at the time the work was performed. During the abstract submission process, you will be asked to provide the name and email address of an adviser who can verify your eligibility for the session. Please ask your adviser to respond to the verification email from AAAS. If we do not receive a response, your submission will be disqualified. Each applicant can only submit one abstract. Names of co-authors can appear on the e-poster, but they cannot be listed in the abstract submission nor can co-authors participate in the video oral presentation. Virtual Presentation Guidelines: For the 2020 Virtual Science, Technology and Human Rights Conference, each approved presenter will prepare and submit a PDF file of their e-poster and a 3-minute video of the student’s oral presentation of their work. Abstract Submissions: Please carefully follow the instructions below. Approved e-poster titles and abstracts will be used as submitted in the online program. Abstracts must be submitted through the online form. Abstracts are limited to 2600 characters (including spaces). Please type or paste the abstract as a single text paragraph (indents, bullets and line breaks will be removed). Abstract Sections: All abstracts should contain the following sections: Background: A brief statement of the study’s objectives Methods: A concise statement of methods Results: A clear presentation of results Conclusions: A closing statement of the study’s conclusions. Abstract title must be in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Co-author names are not allowed within the abstract text. Please proofread your work carefully before submission. All abstracts must be submitted by September 30, 11:59 p.m. ET If needed, you are able to save your place and return at a later time by using the "Save and continue later" dropdown that appears in the top right corner once you begin the submission process. For this to work, you must provide a valid email address. An autogenerated email will be sent with a custom link that will bring you back to where you left off. Oral Presentation Videos: On October 5, each approved e-poster presenter will receive information on how to prepare and upload their 3-minute oral presentation video and their e-poster PDF, as well as details about the necessary file formats. These submissions will be available for meeting attendees on the virtual meeting platform. Video presentations should include a clear statement of the problem and its importance, a summary of key elements of your research, and your key findings.
