As many list members will know by now, France has declared a state of emergency following several attacks in Paris (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34814203). To all list members from France (and especially those in Paris), please know that the rest of us are thinking of you tonight, and hoping that you are safe and well.

Thank you very much, Bruce. Living in a big city the events were so far
away that I learned about the events through a mail from my brother living in a neighbouring country. And then you learn the same night that a friend went to the football play game France-Germany through the entry were the assailants exploded some time later, and another had to rest for several hours in a restaurant in the streets where the killing spree took place. Another one braved the curfew and sent us pictures from a restaurant with the dead on the restaurant terrace, 200 m from the apartment. Yesterday night before leaving for a meeting I heard a series of short, dry detonations and asked myself: How to understand what I hear ? So, we all hope that the events don't touch you or anyone else but you know it can happen. And then there are the regional elections next 6th and 13th December where the extreme right wing only waits to "reassure" the frightened French voter. Globalization hits back. We are no longer protected through big oceans. And we pay the price for a historic errors now. Thanks again for your good wishes.
