I am posting this to the whole list because I have lost track of how to
reach the list manager.
Many years ago some mail programs had trouble with italics, bold,
character size, color, change of fonts between fixed and variable
spaced, etc. But that is rare today.
Newsgroups still seem to require plain text, but listserv lists do not.
That is often a major advantage of lists over newsgroups. Also listserv
profiles scan be set to plain to NOHTML for the instance where mail
programs have problems with HTML.
I find it useful when sending snippets of syntax to others to send the
syntax in fixed fonts so that portions can be vertically aligned and
made distinct from other text. I also do this on posts to this list,
but font change, size, bolding, etc. do not come through. I have my
profile on the listserv for this list set so that I can receive HTML in
posts. I do receive HTML on other lists, so the loss of HTML is
somewhere else on the route a message takes.
Since this list was started many years ago when there might have been a
problem with HTML, I am guessing that a setting was made to change posts
to plain text. Since list members have the option to set their
individual accounts to NOHTML, I am requesting that settings be made
that enable users to get HTML if they choose.
I have worked around this by sending email to the OP at the same time as
I reply to the list. However, people other than the OP do not see the
emphases etc that are in the HTML version of the post.
