Off topic.
I am running windows 8.1 with all updates. Does anybody recall how to search for all .SPS files created this year that contain a specific string such as "casestovars" TIA

Not sure how within Windows' Explorer but most text editors will have search functionality such as Notepad++ or Textpad Editor though I don't think these editors will allow search by date period.

If it works like Explorer in Win 7, that would be: position

When I click in the empty search box, I am offered filters that include "earlier this year", so that probably works, too. -- Rich Ulrich > Date: Sat, 4 Apr 2015 10:36:53 -0700 > From: [hidden email] > Subject: OT windows 8.1 find .sps files that contain "casestovars" > To: [hidden email] > > Off topic. > I am running windows 8.1 with all updates. > > Does anybody recall how to search for all .SPS files created this year that > contain a specific string such as "casestovars" > |

Thank you all for you suggestions.
I found "Agent Ransack" which seems to work for finding files that contain a specific string. I have only done it a couple times but so far so good. https://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack However, be careful. I just searched for "agent ransack" and received a hit on CNET. I removed it immediately after I installed it because it installed other software without asking. When I used the link above the .exe was smaller and and did not have the hidden add-ons.

Hi Art. I have an old free version (6.0.1.3) of PowerDesk, a replacement for Windows Explorer. It includes a nice File Finder tool that allows for searches like the one you describe. I cannot now find my old setup file for it, but was able to download one here:
http://powerdesk.soft32.com/free-download/ I have not re-installed PowerDesk from this setup file (PowDesk6013_US.exe), but my AV software (ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2.64.12) detects nothing untoward in it. But as always, do exercise some caution! Cheers, Bruce

I'll file that away.
It looks like a useful tool
