Opening data file curiosity

Timothy Hennigar

I saw something today I have never seen before in SPSS …

A friend passed along an excel file I quickly wanted to convert to SPSS.

I opened SPSS and then opened (read in) the excel file (as far as I could tell looking at the excel

before doing this – standard stuff first row var names and data).

Did not seem to be any issues.

Saved as SPSS data file.

Then – I thought I would quickly see if it opened ok … and when I tried to open it I am seeing a flash of a screen as it opens – it’s a quick

flash – I can see some kind of large text graphic .. but its gone and the data is open before I can tell what it is – it does this on my 2nd install

of SPSS 23 also so it is not one machine - does not happen in version 14.

Is there a feature here I am not aware of ??

Thanks!

No flash here:  *.sav files open smoothly.  Not tried importing from Excel as no suitable files.
