Pre-website guides for survey research and SPSS.

John F Hall
Terry

Spent several days doing my head in over these, but until we get the website sorted I think this is the best way for users to access entries already posted.  I've meticulously checked that all the links work in the new guides, both of which will always be at the top of their respective pages.

These two guides will remain stable for users (but not for me!) and minimise my efforts when I come to update existing entries or add new ones.

SPSS France just circulated a puff (in French) for the recent takeover by IBM for $2.5 billion.  Norman Nie, one of the original authors, must have trousered a few $million for the SPSS trademark.  ViAnn Beadle sent this to the SPSSx list.

Clearly I've been in the wrong business all these years!

I was mistaken about the takeover price.  It was only $1.2 billion.  Don't know where I got the higher figure from.  As I understand it IBM were going to change the name to PASW, but I just hope everything is settled now for the SPSS name.   To millions of users SPSS is a household name just like Hoover, and to many of us academic social scientists more a utility like electricity, gas or water, even the air we breathe.  We may not be shareholders, but we are still major stakeholders.
