I was mistaken about the takeover price. It
was only $1.2 billion. Don't know where I got the higher figure
from. As I understand it IBM were going to change the name to
PASW, but I just hope everything is settled now for the SPSS name.
To millions of users SPSS is a household name just like Hoover, and to many
of us academic social scientists more a utility like electricity,
gas or water, even the air we breathe. We may not be shareholders,
but we are still major stakeholders.
