Hi,
If you're using a Mac, check to see if your look and feel is set to SPSS Standard. If so, try changing it to Macintosh and see if you can then save the files. There is a known issue with saving of syntax and output files when the look and feel is set to SPSS Standard. In the SPSS menus, go to Edit>Options and look on the General tab on the left-hand side for the Look and feel option.
This problem is slated to be fixed in Release 17.0.2. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Subject: [SPSSX-L] Problem with saving SPSS 17.00
Hi
I have recently upgraded to SPSS 17.00 and have had trouble saving syntax and output files. No dialog box opens when I click save or save as. For now, I am resorting to saving my syntax in Word files.
Has anyone experience this or is it some sort of a problem with the installation?
Any thoughts on this would be really great.
