Hi All,
I protected some files in v17 and can not change the status of the same file using v18. Luckily I had the older version so I could un-protect the file and move it to another directory, etc. Has anyone else encountered this? Is this a bug? Hi Damir,
By protected, I simply am referring to the ability to mark a file "Read Only" under the file menu inside of SPSS. It's not password protected, but at least modifications to the file cannot occur. My issue is that I made the file Read Only in V17 but cannot alter that property using the new version of SPSS. Luckily, I had the old version on my computer so I could change the state back to read/write. My question is whether this is a bug or not. I don't know about a bug here, but the read-only setting is an OS property. SPSS is just providing a convenient way to set or remove that property. You can always do this directly in the OS (assuming that you have the relevant permissions, without which SPSS can't do this either). On Windows that setting would be on the security tab in the Windows Explorer (right click on the file name, choose Properties; then Security). We replicated the problem in Technical Support, i.e. that the File menu in Statistics 18 will not let you change a 'Mark File Read Only' status that was set in Statistics 17 to 'Mark File Read Write'. This problem has been filed as a bug with SPSS Development. The work-around is to change the setting in the Properties dialog for the file as Jon described below..
