I just downloaded Python essentials, the executable file called
SPSS_STATSPYT_PLG-INTRL64B21.0W1NML.exe For Win 7 64-bit. The previous page instructions said the standard and trial versions are the same. This download is listed as a trial. Is there an expiration date on this download since it is listed as a trial? I'm not sure what this executable file will do. Anything insidious? This sounds funny and paranoiac, but when I downloaded the patch I couldn't launch SPSS until I uninstalled ZoneAlarm. I'm afraid if I execute another file I might end up with another problem to solve. I'm tired. Also, there is another download, again in the Trial web page, called "IBM SPSS Statistics-Integration Plug-in for Microsoft .NET 21.0 for Windows." What is this? I think the Python essentials download has all the plug ins, and so do I need this? Prior to the patch for 21, the trial and
standard versions were identical. As part of the V21 patch, the Python
Essentials in Fixcentral were also updated. The trial version was
not. You should use the version from Fixcentral. There is no
expiration on the trial, but it does not have the fixes in the Fixcentral
version.
The .NET plugin is not related to the Python Essentials. It is for .NET programming. Jon,
When I google search on IBM Fix Central, it takes me to http://www-933.ibm.com/support/fixcentral/ I enter the product name of SPSS Statistics, 21.0.0.1 as the installed version, and Windows 64-bit x86 as the platform. Thanks, Jon. The first time I did this I did enter 21.0.0.0 as the
installed version and I did get to a list of files. One was the 21.0-IM-S21STATPE-WIN64-FP001 you state below in your message. However, when I clicked on "more information", it did not say it was for Python Essentials. I see now that I needed to select on this and then click on continue at which point it takes me to the login screen. However, I could not have known it was for Python because there was no indication of what it was, except for the "PE" of S21STATPE. Since I did not see a Python essentials choice and I did not know what IM meant (since the file I downloaded did not have IM in the file name), I then went back and redid the search by changing the installed version from 21.0.0.0 to 21.0.0.1. When I did this, it only came up with one entry. I think the choice for the installed version entry needs to be clarified. The installed version *is* 21.0.0.1. Apparently, what it wanted was what the version was that the download file is supposed to apply to. Maybe this is clarified in some help stuff, but it is not evident from the entry screen. Thanks for you help. I think I should be able to get through this now (when I get back Tuesday). Part of my problem is not yet understanding the menu system IBM has in place (although I don't know how anyone could know that PE is for Python when the file I downloaded said PYT and the "More Information" did not give any more enlightenment, and know which "installed version" to enter).
