R^2 adjusted

can someone plz explain the difference between R^2 and R^2 adjusted. i know its better to use R^2 adjusted, but what makes it better. thx.

The adjusted R square is an estimate of the population R squared that
reduces bias due to potential over fitting on the sample used.
