R

SR Millis-3
I use both SPSS and R.

I use SPSS for the easy stuff while reserving R for the tough stuff, eg, lasso and elastic-net regularized generalized linear models.

Re: R

Hart, Kimberly (hartkb)

I have used SPSS for years and years, but I had to learn R recently, as all of my PhD biostat classes have required R. Better R than SAS, IMHO. And, Rcmdr was really helpful when I was learning, as was the book “R for SAS and SPSS Users”.

I don’t see myself giving up SPSS, and hopefully I will never have to. But I really do like R for some things and am increasingly using R for graphics and net reclassification tables. It is very nice to be able to use it from within SPSS. Although as David would point out, this would not be a good solution if I had to share my syntax.

Best, Kim
