Re: AMOS ERROR MEASSAGE

I am trying to test my model and I keep on getting this message "The model is probably unidentified. In order to achieve identifiability, it will probably be necessary to impose 1 additional constraint." when I view the text output. Also I get "An error occurred while attempting to fit the model. The sample moment is not positive definite. It could fail to be positive definite for any of the following reasons..."then it give couple of reasons which I fail to understand.
Please someone help.

PLEASE START A NEW THREAD!
I moved msg to a new thread.
OP: Please provide some sort of useful info about your 'model'?
READ the thread you originally hijacked and report what was asked of the poster in that thread.
Also post the EXACT ERROR MESSAGES!
Not posting diagnostic msgs that you don't understand will NOT help you to get any help here.

Re: AMOS ERROR MEASSAGE

mayarwali
While working on measurement model for each construct through AMOS I have come across an issue. The issue is that my one construct for Turnover Intention among University employees has three indicators and which when is run in Amos the results are:

Result (Default model)
Minimum was achieved
Chi-square = .000
Degrees of freedom = 0
Probability level cannot be computed

While interpreting these values and looking for possible explanation the answers comes to be:

That I have used up all the information I had available and that my model trivially reproduces the covariance matrix. There is nothing that a model with 0 degrees of freedom help explain. Furthermore, this means that the model is "just identified" which means a perfect model. However, to be a true social science researcher it is often said that “there is no way, at least in social science, to know if one could specify a model perfectly.

Besides, there happens to appear an option where it has been suggested to apply an additional "constraint".

What I would like to request that it be explained that how that "constraint" could be added and will that not change the status of the results. How can I defend my self if some one asks for explanation?

Thanks.

Without specifics you expect anyone to give input?
Curious about what you think we do here!
Mind reading? Oh yes, I can see your screen from here!

As others have already pointed out, you need to provide more information
about the model you working with.  That being said, some of the
constraints
you can consider is to made the error/unique variances equal for all
empirical
variables, make all loading on the factors equal, and so on.

A more critical issue is how many empirical indicators do you have for
each construct as well as what is the sample size (with and without
missing data). Please post this info to the list.
