Panic over. Did a restart after saving as much as possible. Only explanation is Orange /France Telecom laying a fibre optic cable and momentarily cut my connection. As usual no warning or apology from the worst provider in the country.
Just got a message from SPSS 19 saying “A fatal error has occurred and the client can no longer communicate with the server.” Anyone know why this might happen? I was in the middle of restoring a master file for the 1986 British Social Attitudes survey. Everything went well until I tried to save the file. My server in France is OK, so it must be IBM.
