I use SPSS 14 & SYSTAT 12 on Win XP. Overall I don't think there are
major differences (occasionally terminology is different) and it may come
down to user needs and user preferences.

SYSTAT doesn't have add ons like AMOS for SEQ etc. But it can
do basic IRT/Rasch analyses. SYSTAT's syntax is much simpler and
I can do basic analyses and graphs much quicker in SYSTAT.
I could teach students to use SYSTAT much quicker than SPSS.

SPSS, however, benefits from a massive amount of support documentation
and user guides (including lists such as this one). If I was doing a
lot of advanced variable manipulation and/or working with multiple
datasets I would certainly go for SPSS.

Others probably have different experiences.
