I've had a couple of suggestions and one demur on the proposal to add a
SIG with sign-off instructions to SPSSX-L postings.
I propose the following revised SIG. I'll forward it as a suggestion to
the list administrator, unless there are comments with reasons not to,
within 48 hours of this posting's date. (As I wrote before, this may
not be possible with LISTSERV list-management software; or the
administrator may not like the idea.)
Proposed SIG:

To leave list SPSSX-L, send a message to
[hidden email] (not
to the list) whose text is the command
SIGNOFF SPSSX-L
There can be no other message text, except an automatic SIG. The
subject line may contain anything, though.
For a list of other commands to manage subscriptions, send a message to
[hidden email] with text
