While I think most who used V16 were less than satisfied, I find V17 up to
the standard that SPSS has been known for. It is, however, important to recognize that with V16 the "front-end" moved to a Java interface (to, as I recall, facilitate the development of a common platform, e.g., PC & Mac) thus issues did exist as well as development/design changes. Back to V17 - Do make sure you install the 17.0.1 patch but that didn't affect the comment wrt the copy/paste of pivot tables to Word and I haven't found this happening, however, do now tend more to exporting. Since the java front end has been brought up, has anyone tried v.17
with 64bit Ubuntu yet? SPSS is one of the few applications that I
still run on my legacy Microsoft XP machine at home. If v.17 works
with 64bit Ubuntu I'm going to have to see about upgrading and see if I
can finally retire that XP box.

Hi Mark,
I understand that you're looking for accounts of people having tested SPSS 17 on 64-bit Ubuntu, which SPSS has not done. For reference, I've pasted the SPSS specifications for Linux below, as noted in the System Requirements page of the SPSS web site, http://www.spss.com/statistics/system_req.htm : SPSS Statistics Base 17.0 for Linux(r) * Operating system* * Any Linux OS that meets the following requirements: * Kernel 2.6.9.42 or higher * glibc 2.3.4 or higher * XFree86-4.0 or higher * libstdc++5 * Hardware * Processor: Intel or AMD x86 processor running at 1 GHz or higher * RAM: 512MB RAM; 1GB recommended * 450 MB of available hard-disk space * CD-ROM drive * Super VGA (800x600) or a higher-resolution monitor * Software * Web browser: Konqueror 3.4.1 or higher, or Firefox 1.0.6 or higher, or Netscape 7.2 or higher *Note: SPSS Statistics 17.0 was tested on and is supported only on Red Hat(r) Enterprise Linux 4 Desktop and Debian(r) 4.0 David Matheson SPSS Statistical Support ________________________________ From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Mark Casazza Sent: Monday, January 05, 2009 10:46 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: What happend to SPSS 16 and 17?
