The current version of spss (15.0) does not offer any assistance in the following subject areas:
1. Designing a Study;
2. Designing forms for Studies;
3. Setting up your data file; and
4. Data coding.
I am a beginner, but had used the DOS version of the software.. The above areas are directly from the Book, titled SPSS/PC+ Studentware. This book is from our DOS days, but it is very instructive and comprehensive, as compared to the current version 15.0, which does not offer these subjects areas.
Someone has suggested that I look at these three books:
1. SPSS Guide to Data Analysis;.
2. SPSS Statistical Procedures Companion; and
3 SPSS Advanced Statistical Procedures Companion
None of these books addresses the subject areas indicated above.
It seems clear that the SPSS corporation has not/did not transition from the DOS version to the Windows GUI platform with the indicated chapters intact. The version SPSS 15.0 Brief Guide simply begins with "Sample Files", provided on a CD.
Is anyone out there who is willing to help a beginner? Know of third-party books that can help?
Thanks.
MI
