Regression equation

Ivana Sinkovic
Dear all,

I was conducting factor analysis (principal components) and I was wondering what is the equation for calculating factor scores for each subject. I saved them as regression, but the results that I get by hand, (using y=b1x1*b2x2*b3x3... equation, where b is factor coefficient and x observed value on a variable, which I believed that was the right one) and the ones that SPSS calculates do not match. Is the equation correct?
Then I have realized that I have zeros as values on all variables included in factor analysis, but factor scores are different from zero (when they should not be if the equation was correct).

It then crossed my mind that I might be needing a constant in my equation, but I have no idea how to calculate it?

So, if there is anyone who knows what is the equation for calculating factor scores, I would be very greatful to him/her if they would share that with me.

  Thanks in advance

  Best regards to all,
  Ivana

Re: Regression equation

Hector Maletta
The factor score coefficients apply to the standardized (z-scores) values of
the variables, i.e. the original values minus the mean, divided by the
standard deviation.
