Remembering column widths - the question is different

Michael Shalev
Sorry to add another mail to you inbox, but my earlier question was not
clear to several people who kindly responded.

The SPSS Data Editor works in two different modes. I was referring to
"Variable View", which dsiplays basic information about all variables under
fixed column headings:
"Name", "Type", "Width", etc.
The columns for variable labels and values are invariably too narrow to
display enough useful information, but as in Excel, the program allows you
to manually change a column's width by dragging its borders. Unlike Excel,
however, it does not remember the new column width between sessions.

If users could define default column widths for Variable View, that would
solve most problems. As well, it would be nice to teach SPSS to remember the
widths associated with each dataset. Since I'm not an SPSS programmer, I'd
be very grateful for suggestions.
