My first reply to Ed's post was rejected by the mailing list.

"Your message is being returned to you unprocessed because it looks like a LISTSERV command, rather than material intended for distribution to the members of the SPSSX-L list."

So let me try again, without using including the word UN$UB$CR1BE, which no doubt caused the problem!

Ed, to stop your subscription, visit this page:

There've been a couple of posts like this recently.  As has been
frequently noted, a post to SPSSX-L will *not* do this.

Bruce Weaver noted that it can be done on the Web from site

    https://listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=spssx-l&A=1

Also, for several years instructions for how to unsubscribe by E-mail
have been appended to SPSSX-L.  I'll put them in the text here; but,
are people not seeing these? (I seem them on posts I receive, and
they seem to be included in Nabble posts.)  Or, are they unclear?
Could they be improved? Anyway, here they are:

Re: Remove from listserv

Rich Ulrich

==================================
( The Listserv rejected my initial posting because it looked like Commands;
the line of double dashes, above, might allow posting. )
What seems popular is that they put SIGNOFF as the Subject.  Also, they do not
change the address from SPSS-L@ ...

If the "-- " convention is not totally obsolete, it might be good to preface
the message with two hyphens and a blank so that compliant mail-readers
would automatically delete  the message from replies.  Does Nabble respect
that?

Here is a suggested revision:
=====suggested tag for posts:
To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a "command" message to
TO: [hidden email] (not to [hidden email])
SUBJECT:  (leave blank)
(Body of message:)  (command)

  - two important Commands:
INFO REFCARD        - will get a list of all commands
SIGNOFF SPSSX-L        - will "sign off" and leave the list

No.  Some people are simply clueless.
