Use the REPLACE function.
COMPUTE MEDICINE = REPLACE(MEDICINE, ".", "").
Or if you want to preserve the original variable:
STRING Med2(A50). /* Change length if necessary.
COMPUTE Med2 = REPLACE(MEDICINE, ".", "").
