Request option for MEANS

Allan Reese (Cefas)
I use MEANS to get handy tables of counts for sparse data.  It would be
*really appreciated* to have an option to suppress the "Totals" lines
when the margins are not of interest.  REPORT can do the same job but it
takes more programming.

Anyone else bothered?

You could set this up with CTABLES if you have that option.  Otherwise, consider this.

MEANS TABLES=accel BY cylinder
  /CELLS MEAN COUNT STDDEV.

SPSSINC MODIFY TABLES subtype="'Report'"
SELECT="Total" DIMENSION= ROWS HIDE=TRUE.

SPSSINC MODIFY TABLES is an extension command downloadable from SPSS Developer Central (www.spss.com/devcentral) and requires the Python programmability plugin and at least Version 17.

AGGRAVATE, errr, AGGREGATE will also work, and is fast:

aggr out = * / break = cylinder / m = mean ( accel )   / sd = sd ( accel ) / n = nu.
save translate outfile='mydir/temp/output.xls'
  /type=xls /version=8 /replace /fieldnames

Cheers!!
