Hi,
This is a request to SPSS that they reinstate the Draft Viewer which was dropped from version 16. The alternative which SPSS have suggested - export your output as a text file , save and then re-load in some other application to read it, is simply unworkable. My work entails long programs which restructure, parse and clean very large data files. The programs are thousands of lines long and require checking their output every run. These runs take along time and having to stop, export the output, save it, open it in something else and then check the output is not practical. Debugging a big program is hard enough as it is without having an exasperating delay like this added to the process. I therefore request that SPSS reinstate the draft viewer. Because of the inability to work the way I need to, I have abandoned use of V16 and now use V15 exclusively. Given the many other problems I've seen in this list that other s have experienced with 16, I'd probably be using 15 anyway, even if the draft viewer was still there. However, I expect that SPSS are well aware that those problems need fixing and are working to address them. Whether they will be able to do this as well as maintain their recent practice of a major new release each year remains to be seen. But the matter of the draft viewer remains a showstopper for me and I hope that this issue can be incorporated into the work schedule. I would also like to recommend that developers of V16 consider using
better fonts throughout. The quality of the font is so grainy that my elder eyesight can't distinguish some text clearly. The effort to read the screens has driven me back to v15 as well.
