SPSS 15 spssd.conf

Gareth Edwards-7

Hi,

I’m running an older copy of SPSS 15 and recently had do a hard reboot which apparently corrupted the SPSSD.CONF file which stops SPSS from opening, instead I get this message:

The client software could not initialize on Local Computer

Verify the integrity of the SPSS Registry file: spssd.conf

It is located either in the install directory or teh file indicated by the SPSS15REGISTRY environment variable

Can anyone send me a copy of this file from their install directory?  All the posts I’ve found on the internet point to this location to get a working copy of the file… but this site no longer exists.

ftp://ftp.spss.com/pub/spss/windows/26567/

My guess is that nobody has seen the distribution disks since circa 2007 ;-(  Or it was downloaded and the install image is FUBAR.  Maybe there is an ancient system backup  lurking around somewhere?

Probably just send Gareth the spssd.conf file.  Who knows whether something else will bust out later.
Verify the destination location too.  Probably in the SPSS root.

I have 15 on a CD, but it's no longer maintained so you probably won't be
able to get a license code: I couldn't, but 19 is much better.

Re: SPSS 15 spssd.conf

Gareth Edwards-7
FYI someone was able to extract the spssd.conf from the 15 installation disk and it worked for me.

I've saved the old (broken) one was spssd.conf.bak and the new one (uncorrupted) as spssd.conf.working in case it goes corrupt again.  Attempting to "repair" with the installation disk didn't help.

I have a newer SPSS, but 15 is the last pre-java update and it runs much faster for generating hundreds of pages of tables at a time, as I am prone to do.

Thanks again,

Gareth Edwards
