SPSS version 16.01, OS-- XP SP2
We recently installed SPSS 16 (w/patch 16.01) on a test machine in one of our student labs (currently running version 15). When double-clicking multiple spss syntax files from within windows explorer SPSS opens a new instance of SPSS for each syntax file. We have contacted SPSS (see below) & this is a known issue. With a 500 license site, we commonly have 300 to 400 stuednts in classes opening 5 to 10 syntax files per session using windows explorer, so this is more than an inconvenience. For this reason, we cannot put spss 16 into production (which is a shame since we were looking forward to the spss excel 2007 inegration). Hopefully, a fic will arrive soon but the tech support person said this fix was currently slotted for version 17.

Problem Summary:
Opening sav files by double clicking on them will launch a new spss.exe rather than opening within the existing process in SPSS 16.0 for Windows.
Problem Description:
I can open multiple data files or syntax files within one session of SPSS 16.0 by opening files through the File ->Open-> menu without any problems. If I already have an SPSS session running and then double click on an SAV or SPS file in Windows via Windows Explorer or browsing through "My Computer" a new spss.exe process is started. I expect the file being opened within the existing spss.exe process as it did in SPSS 15.0 but it does not.
When using a network license each spss.exe is using a license token.
