SPSS 20 y-axis scaling

kate
Hi,

I have a problem with SPSS 20 when I try to change the value labels displayed on the y-axis in the chart editor.

I have several values between 1 and 8 (e.g. 2.07), all of which are displayed on the y-axis. Instead, I would like to display only 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 as whole numbers - none of which are displayed at the moment.

I can do this without a problem for the x-axis (Properties -> Scale tab -> Range: Minimum/Maximum/Major Increment/Origin), but the "Scale" tab is missing in the Properties box for the y-axis. I have no idea why this is the case, does anyone know? Or any alternative ways to achieve what I am tryin to do?

Sorry for the basic question, any answers would really be appreciated.

Thanks

Kate

To begin with you have to describe what your plot consists of and how you
got your graph. Did you use syntax or go through the user interface?

Which UI? Did you specify any aggregation? Did you use 1 variable for Y and 1 variable for X. If you look at your output, the notes table will provide the syntax generated. Double click and copy the info to the clipboard.

My plot consists of values between 1 and 8 (y-axis), plotted against 60 groups listed on the x-axis. I went throught the user interface.

Hi Kate,
One possibility may be that your y-axis variable is defined as ordinal/nominal, so the chart is recognising it as a categorical variable and hence displaying each unique value separately. If this is the case, change its measurement type to scale and rerun.
Hope this might help.
Cheers,
Kylie.
