With the release of Statistics 21, there
are a few points about the programmability extensions to make besides the
V21 feature list.
First, the Python Essentials are now
included in the installation media or download, so you do not need to go
to the SPSS Community site and download this material separately. It
remains a separate install, but the new packaging should be more convenient.
The R Essentials must still be obtained from the SPSS Community site
(www.ibm.com/developerworks/spssdevcentral).
We have also updated and expanded the set of extension commands installed
as part of the Essentials for both Python and R.
Second, I announced a new extension
command, STATS TABLE CALC, a few weeks ago. This command allows you
to compute with the cells of a pivot table and update the table with the
results. Through V20, it can only replace the contents of existing
cells. With V21 it can put the results in new columns or rows of
an existing table. V21 contains new scripting apis that make this
possible. This extension command needs to be downloaded from the
SPSS Community site and installed, but if you downloaded it earlier, you
don't need a new version.
