SPSS Mixed Help

psychresearcher
Hi all,

I am having trouble building my model properly, and I was hoping I could get some advice here.

I have a 2 (S: P vs. D) x 3 (ET: CA vs. CO vs. AD) between-subjects design. Participants were run in pairs (one P was always matched to one D and they were in the same ET condition), so I know I need to nest by pairs. Participants then completed the same measure - CR - at times 1, 2, and 3. I restructured my data set into long form, so I also have a T (time) variable in addition to Pr (pair), and ID (participant ID) variables as well. I also dummy coded ET into ET1 and ET2 if it is necessary for this to come out correctly.

I have been trying to build a model using SPSS Mixed, but something feels off. Can someone give me an example of the syntax I would need to test this model? I do need to be able to assess the interaction between S and ET, and I want to test whether the model works between w/ or w/o random intercept +/or slopes. Any help would be much appreciated!

I think that the data look like this, for each pair in an ET condition.

ID S ET T1 T2 T3
 1 P CA  x  y  z
 1 S CA  a  b  c

I don't know how to run it with Mixed, but I can suggest how
you can get the interesting results where the pairing is considered
essential - Simplify (1) by subtracting S from P to test their difference
and interaction with ET; (2) by averaging S and P to test the main
effect of ET.

Time usually deserves simplifying, too, into Mean and Linear.
 - These analyses might give you something to compare against
while you are fiddling with options in Mixed.
