I really need an SPSS/PC v2.0 key disk or exact image copy of one.
This is the version for PC from 1988. We have the program up and running to the point where it will start up and ask for the key disk. The copy of the key disk I have does not work. I contacted SPSS and they do not have a copy to sell or lend me. They also said they would have no problem with my obtaining a copy elsewhere. My friend who is into hardware systems thinks that there is a good chance that an exact image (aka container) file of the key disk would work. DOS copy does not make an exact image copy, a program called RAWRITE will. If you have a machine with a 5.25 drive would you please send me an exact image copy of it? If your computer uses Windows, please use something like the free software at the link below to create an exact image of the key disk. then please zip the .fic file and email it to me. If your computer does not use windows, please let me know what OS it uses, and I'll find a version of *rawrite* for your operating system and send it to you. If you have difficulties getting an image copy of the key disk, would you be willing to send the disk itself to me? I would certainly reimburse you for shipping. I would also be willing to reimburse you for your time and send a security deposit pending my return of your disk if you need that. ยท Floppy Image Creator <http://www.fdos.org/ripcord/rawrite/flpimg141.zip> (Freeware v1.4.1,) "This program allows you to make an exact image of a floppy disk and save it to a file, and of course restore the image to disk when ever required. It is especially useful for making backups of system and/or boot disks. It will handle all the standard format floppys (IE: 360Kb 5.25", 720Mb 3.5", 1.2Mb 5.25" and 1.44Mb 3.5"). You also have the option of including a description of the disk with the image." Finally, does anyone know of way to make SPSS/PC 2.0 work without the key disk? Thanks. In the back of a drawer, I discovered a copy of SPSS ver. 7.5 (for PC).
Occasionally folks show up here on the list in desperate need of an old version. If you are one such, and for some reason you need this particular version, contact me off-list and we'll see what we can work out. The set includes 12 original installation disks (3.5" disks), plus the Advanced Statistics, Professional Statistics, and Tables disks (3.5"). I am assuming that SPSS is no longer concerned about controlling ancient versions such as this, but if it is still an issue, please advise. I don't want to do anything inappropriate.
