SPSS Statistics and microprocessor cores

Kirill Orlov
Dear colleagues,

1) Will there be an advantage running SPSS Statistics on a 6 core over running it on a 4 core processor (say, Intel i7 series)? If yes, what advantage?

2) Will old versions of SPSS (such as 15) be able to work on 6 core processor too?

3) Will you really recommend 6 core processor (over 4 core) for somebody doing / interested in high-performance scientific/math calculations?

Thank you very much for your opinion!

Currently the Statistics Client is limited to 4 cores.  Server can use more. You can see a list of the procedures that are multithreaded in the CSR under SET THREADS.  Of course, the Statistics backend and frontend processes will always run concurrently as long is there is work for both to do.
