You are running in Unicode mode but reading
a sav file that is encoded in code page mode. Strings widths are
tripled in that case in order to ensure no loss of data when the characters
are converted from a code page encoding to Unicode. This should make
no difference to your work in most cases, however, you can change Statistics
to run in code page mode via Edit >Options. You should read the
help available there about working in Unicode or code page.

I have a problem with my remote session SPSS.
My Spss session change the number of character of all string variables.
EG. i read the same SAV file than my collegas.
all my collegas have the format A2 for a variable but i
have A6 for
this variable in the same sav file !
