I have a problem during data entry into an SPSS file and I am not sure it this is the right place to post it. When typing numbers, very often SPSS duplicates the characters. So while typing “1”, SPSS records “11”, which is very annoying and a possible source of errors. I have had this problem on different computers and with different versions of SPSS (I am currently using version 18). Adapting the keyboard settings (repeat delay) doesn’t solve the problem. Does anyone recognize this and/or have any suggestions? Wim Neeleman |

Hello Wim. Is this problem unique to SPSS, or does it also happen if you enter data with Excel, for example?

It only happens in SPSS. I forgot to mention that it happens when "value labels" are on. As far as I remember, it never happened when "value labels" are off.On 29 March 2014 14:26, Bruce Weaver <[hidden email]> wrote: Hello Wim. Is this problem unique to SPSS, or does it also happen if you |
There was a tricky interaction between
picking in the value label dropdown and entering a value that could cause
this problem. It was fixed in later versions, but turning off the
value label view is the workaround if you are seeing this problem.

In other words, there is no way to solve it in this version? That would be a pity, because typing in data (instead of choosing from the drop down box), but with value labels turned on, happens to be my favourite way of entering data....
